Led by drummer Graham Costello, known for his playing with electro post-rockers Outblinker, STRATA presents a wholly original style of music, fusing prog-jazz and Steve Reich-inspired minimalism whilst exploring radical rhythmic possibilities and immersive soundscapes. Expect ground-shaking riffs, mind-bending grooves and virtuosic improvisation. Strata performs as both a quartet and sextet, featuring the core of Graham on drums, Joe Williamson on guitar, Fergus McCreadie on piano and Angus Tikka on bass, augmented by saxophonist Harry Wier and Liam Shortall on trombone.

Square One

Vocalist Luca Manning and guitarist Joe Williamson perform colourful and refreshing re-imaginings of songs from the classic jazz repertoire and beyond. With a unique musical rapport, Luca & Joe find new meaning in much-loved songs by presenting them in new contexts, freely drawing on their diverse influences including folk, blues and indie rock. In a new take on this intimate duo format, Joe’s sensitive and creative accompaniment forms the perfect foil for Luca’s heartfelt and honest lyrical delivery, with plenty of space for free-flowing improvisation.

JOE Williamson

Guitarist and Composer

Spark Trio approaches the classic organ/guitar/drums format with a contemporary outlook. They perform original compositions and creative arrangements of standards, in which modern jazz sounds merge with touches of Gospel, the blues, and the classic organ trio style. The trio features distinguished pianist and keyboardist Paul Harrison (Sugarwork, Herschel 36, Breach),  Joe Williamson on guitar (Square One), and Stephen Henderson on drums (Square One, Fergus McCreadie Trio). Spark Trio run a monthly gig in Glasgow on the first Monday of the month, featuring guest musicians alongside the trio.

Square One are Glasgow-based quartet, known for their free-spirited original music and energised live performances. The music they play alights upon many modern touchstones such as folk, fusion, soulfulness, ECM euro-cool and stylish, straight ahead jazz - yet it is a clear affinity with great melody and an intelligent musical rapport that makes Square One much more than the sum of all these parts. The band has been described as:

''A soulful and empathetic band with an irresistible charisma - they dominated the room from beat one'' - Julian Joseph, BBC Radio 3

''Stirring and Dynamic'' - Jazzwise

The band features Joe Williamson on guitar, Peter Johnstone on piano, David Bowden on bass and Stephen Henderson on drums. This vibrant four-piece are the proud recipients of the Peter Whittingham Jazz Award 2015 administered by Help Musicians UK for emerging jazz artists. Square One released their debut album 'In Motion' in 2016, and toured internationally. Here are some excerpts:
